Kinetic: A powerhouse in technological innovation

Like mechanical and quartz, Kinetic is a platform. Over the past 20 years, SEIKO has created on this platform a suite of Kinetic movements, each bringing unique features to the consumer.

It was at the 1986 Basel Fair that SEIKO unveiled its first Kinetic prototype. Introduced under the trial name of 'AGM', it was the first watch in the world to convert kinetic movement into electrical energy. It was the first step in a development that, 20 years later, has made Kinetic synonymous with environmental friendliness, high performance and long-lasting convenience to a generation of users worldwide. From the launch in 1988 of the first commercially available watch (then under the new name AGS) until today, over eight million Kinetic watches have been sold (as of 2007).

In 1998, Kinetic Auto Relay was released, extending the 'at-rest' operating period of the watch to a remarkable 4 years. 1999 saw the launch of the Ultimate Kinetic Chronograph, a masterpiece which fused the very best of SEIKO's mechanical and electronic watch making skills, and in 2003 another Kinetic Chronograph was launched. At Baselworld 2005, the Kinetic Perpetual made its first appearance, combining Kinetic convenience and longevity with a perpetual calendar, correct to the year 2100. In 2007, SEIKO's emotional technology Kinetic Direct Drive is introduced.

I have this watch and I love it. It's absolutely beautiful yet simple. The band is very comfortable and has a secure clasp. I've accidentally hit the face of the watch several times on some hard surfaces, but the crystal has yet to scratch. It keeps very accurate time, and the battery level indicator still shows a full charge, even after a year. One very cool aspect of this watch (that is not shown in the product images) is the back of the watch. It is transparent, so you can see all the gears and pendulum that drives the micro-generator which keeps it charged. It really looks awesome, especially to me since I'm an engineer. I've received many compliments on the watch. I didn't buy it through Amazon, but I should have, because it would have been much cheaper!

I ordered this watch as a gift for someone.

It is true that the clear backing of the watch is really cool, as you can see the mechanism.

This watch oozes class and sophistication. It's truly a very handsome watch, and it comes in a large, good-looking blue box and is displayed nicely within.

I was looking a kinetic watch and at the same time, I've always loved the Tag Heuer link watches because of their great bracelets. When I first saw this watch I was suspicious about the quality.

I've bought this watch and I want to say that the build quality is very good, very detailed bracelet which is more beautiful then a Tag link and silver white dial with sophistication. My wife liked it a lot and all my friends gave good comments.

Only minor issue is the pin holes at the watch, they could be concealed but not a big deal. Great watch!
