Product Review

Bold, fashionable, and remarkably functional, this Seiko Men's Kinetic Watch automatically generates and stores power based on the movement of your wrist, so you never have to change a battery. With a polished stainless steel case and crown plus a stainless steel unidirectional bezel featuring an inner ring that combines navy blue and silver-tone Arabic numeral indices, this timepiece showcases detail-oriented craftsmanship. Also offering a unique screw-down see-through caseback that lets you view the precision mechanisms inside, a deep blue dial with polished silver-tone hands, round luminous indices marking each hour, and small white stick indices marking each minute and second, this watch provides a date window at three o'clock for quick reference and a durable hardlex crystal to protect its distinctive face. This watch is water resistant to 330 feet and is protected by three-year manufacturer warranty.

Kinetic: A powerhouse in technological innovation

Like mechanical and quartz, Kinetic is a platform. Over the past 20 years, SEIKO has created on this platform a suite of Kinetic movements, each bringing unique features to the consumer.

It was at the 1986 Basel Fair that SEIKO unveiled its first Kinetic prototype. Introduced under the trial name of 'AGM', it was the first watch in the world to convert kinetic movement into electrical energy. It was the first step in a development that, 20 years later, has made Kinetic synonymous with environmental friendliness, high performance and long-lasting convenience to a generation of users worldwide. From the launch in 1988 of the first commercially available watch (then under the new name AGS) until today, over eight million Kinetic watches have been sold (as of 2007).

In 1998, Kinetic Auto Relay was released, extending the 'at-rest' operating period of the watch to a remarkable 4 years. 1999 saw the launch of the Ultimate Kinetic Chronograph, a masterpiece which fused the very best of SEIKO's mechanical and electronic watch making skills, and in 2003 another Kinetic Chronograph was launched. At Baselworld 2005, the Kinetic Perpetual made its first appearance, combining Kinetic convenience and longevity with a perpetual calendar, correct to the year 2100. In 2007, SEIKO's emotional technology Kinetic Direct Drive is introduced.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another quality Seiko product, March 31, 2009

This is my 4th Seiko, but my first with Kinetic power. First impression is that this is a very substantial watch. If you are looking for a lightweight watch, this is not for you. If, on the other hand, you like a heavy watch with a very solid bracelet and clasp, you will be pleased with this item. The foldover clasp is particularly well done.

The general face layout with the luminescent markers is very readable and could best be classified as a Diver style watch. The unidirectional bezel can be rotated and used for timing, a feature which I rarely use. As is typical with my other Seikos, the second hand ticks are dead on the face markers. While this may or may not be an indicator of accuracy, this precision is impressive. I have not had this watch long enough to monitor its' accuracy, but my past experience with Seiko is that their quartz movements are extremely accurate.

The button located at the 2 o'clock position is for providing an estimate of the watches'...Read more

I first became acquainted with Seiko watches when serving in Vietnam in the late '60s - The px's were full of them and it seemed that the majority of GI's had one on their wrist. My favorable impression has lasted over 40 years and this watch enhances my impressions of Seiko products. This watch provides innovative quality, with an appealing look (not pretentious, but an appearance that is substantial) at a good price for value rec'd. I have had it almost a month and have nothing but positive feelings about it as regards accuracy and wearability.
I do have one question as regards it's pricing. I did not buy this via Amazon, but from a local jeweler with whom I have dealt with for many years. His listed price was the $395, suggested retail price. He provided a 15% discount, which struck me as fair. Upon checking this Amazon posting and finding that it can be bought for $183, I was somewhat taken aback. How can this be? I doubt that my jeweler friend could purchase this...Read more
