Product Review

Never worry about having to replace a watch battery with this contemporary, sporty Croton stainless steel men's automatic timepiece--which is wound by the kinetic motion of your arm. This large-sized timepiece has a squarish case with rounded, barrel-like edges, with the stainless steel bracelet band smoothly integrated into the design and tapering as it winds around the wrist. The case and bracelet have a silvery gray rhodium plating, and the case is topped by a circular bezel with a luminous dot marker at 12 o'clock, Arabic numerals at the other quarter hours, screw-down accents, and coin-edged detailing. The patterned black carbon fiber dial includes a full Arabic numeral display in silver as well as yellow skeleton hands (with seconds hand), Arabic 5-minute marks around the exterior, and a date window at 3 o'clock. Other features include a scratch-resistant hardened mineral crystal and water resistance to 100 meters (330 feet)--offering protection from accidental splashes as well suitable for swimming, snorkeling, and light recreational diving.

An automatic (or self-winding) watch is fitted with a device (rotor) that automatically winds the spring by using the force of gravity. It needs no battery, but it will stop if you have been physically inactive for an extended period of time--as long as you're moving, the watch will stay powered. Swiss watchmaker Abraham-Louis Perrelet invented the self-winding mechanism in 1770. It worked on the same principle as a modern pedometer, and was designed to wind as the owner walked.
